FEBRUARY 2004 NEWS NFA Remodel The Nursing, Family & Consumer Science, and Arts & Science building, better know as NFA, is getting a change. With the building being so large, many may not notice, but Physical Plant employees are working hard to make two small rooms into one bigger class lab. The Family & Consumer Sciences department has asked Physical Plant to renovate a resource room and a conference room into a “smart” class lab. This requires the walls separating the two rooms to be removed, electrical wiring to be changed, and different heating and ventilation for the new room. The new room will also include new finishes, equipment necessary for the class lab technology, and dimmable lighting. The project was started mid February and should be completed before the semester is finished. Preparation for Student Union Expansion Depuy Military Hall is getting prepared to temporarily house the food service facilities that are currently in the University Student Union. Why you ask? If you recall back to December’s news, there was a story about the expansion that is expected to begin in May. The students are going to need a place to dine and Depuy Military Hall is the perfect place! There will be bathrooms put in in the southwest corner of the gymnasium, serving lines against the south wall, and seating throughout. Other places that will be housing food service stations are Yeager Hall and the NFA building. In the entry way of Yeager Hall that will be a quick stop where they will have cold sandwiches, soda, candy, etc. The NFA building will house the Java City coffee shop in room 232. Spreading out the food service area will make it better for space issues because Depuy Military Hall is a lot smaller than the space available in the University Student Union. Oak Lake Project The Oak Lake Biology Field Station Addition and Renovation project is located at the SDSU Oak Lake Field Station just south of Astoria (the former Girl Scout Camp). The project was designed by Physical Plant Engineering, Les Olive and Barry Mielke, and constructed by Clark Drew Construction, a local contracto). The casework going into the classroom will be made by the Physical Plant Shops.
